I just reread my last blog post and ideas that I shared there have been put into action. I decided to redo, The Artist’s Way, a Julia Cameron book that has supported me in the past and is doing so again. I am giving myself the time that is needed to nurture my creative self. I am sharing this journey with a group of other artists. I realized as January came to a close that I needed to refocus. I wanted to be clear about why I am doing what I am doing. It is so easy to get pulled into comparing mind and this idea that I should be somewhere else in my music life then I am. Insecurity and doubt can be very close by. Creativity is also close by and I do believe that it is available to all of us. We all have gifts to share.
My trip to the farm didn’t happen due to cold weather and snow, however, I was able to give myself space and time here where I live. I had already blocked the time in my schedule and actually had more time for writing then if I had traveled. I worked on two songs that I had started in the past. Had some fun trying to work with different rhythms and chords and I finished a new song which I am pleased with. I allowed myself to continue to tell my own truths and stories. This can be a challenge from time to time as unexpected emotions can rise to the surface.
I also had the opportunity to play at The Vertigo Series, an artistic evening of readings by writers and music by a musician. It was so rewarding to play a few songs, play them well and have them appreciated. I am truly grateful when this happens.
So the take away from these last two weeks is that there is enough time to do what we love and creativity is available to all of us. We may need to set aside time for it but it is available.
So may you have joy and love in your life, in whatever form it arrives, may you be open to receive it!
And here is to our creative lives and ventures! Go out and be your most creative self!
Yours in music and creativity,
