We are in the month of November, Halloween has come and gone and Christmas is just around the calendar. That’s how things are for those of us in Canada. Remembrance Day was this past Sunday (Veterans Day in the United States) and we don’t talk a lot about Christmas until we are at least past November 11th. When I mention to people that Christmas is very close, there is a variety of responses. There is either joy at the idea that their favorite time of year is here or dislike at the mention of it. Christmas brings out feelings like nothing else. I loved Christmas as a young person and in my twenties. Then things changed when I became divorced and we had to share the boys during the holiday season. I dealt with this pain by working (not that it really worked). In the past several years I have tried to reclaim the season. Strong emotions still surface but as long as I don’t forget that they will arrive I am better able to keep my balance.
For me this year, November is about practicing Christmas music. I haven’t done a whole Christmas show before but as I have a Christmas single coming out and people like music at Christmas it seemed to make sense to get with it. I will be stretching myself in a new way. I did promise myself to only play Christmas music that I love and I am choosing to play at places that would appreciate Christmas Carols. I hope as you carry on through this month that takes you closer to Christmas that you find things you love about November. Perhaps it is still warm enough to take walks outside or write your first blog, maybe you can join a yoga class or read a good book. Think about things you love and find the time to participate in them. Until next time.
Yours in creativity and song,
Wanda G.
