I have experienced many feelings in these last couple of weeks about heading to the studio. It is just over a week before I will be meeting with three studio musicians and my producer Brad Prosko to start recording my songs. Brad and I didn’t have too much trouble choosing the eight songs. I had sent him fifteen for consideration. I am not quite sure how they all hang together yet except the overall theme seems to be one of hope. Robyn’s (my wife) favorite so far is Shifting Sands, one I just wrote when I was away on retreat. It could be the name of the album as well, but that is still up for discussion.
My job in these next few days is to really listen and consider how I want these songs to sound and to write down what my vision is for my album. (I picked that idea up from Brassy Broadcast, a music podcast I listen to.) I wonder about the impact of music and then I see it in the faces of the audience as my voice and lyrics land on their ears and I hear an audible sigh when I have finished. I am grateful that my music has added something to someone’s day.
So back to the studio. I have some very accomplished musicians coming to play on my album which both thrills and intimidates me at the same time. It really is a project of trust to give my songs to other people to add their creativity to and then see how the whole thing roles out. So think of me this next month as I record my songs to prepare to share them with those who would like to listen.
Yours in creativity and music,
